Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook was named MVP of February’s NBA All-Star Game, and the honor happened to come with a brand-new Kia Sorento.
But this week, Westbrook decided to give the car to someone who needed it slightly more than he did: 19-year-old Kerstin Gonzales, a single mother of two who lives in Oklahoma City.
Westbrook surprised Gonzales with the keys Monday, with the help of Sunbeam Family Services, an organization that works with low-income people in central Oklahoma. The star is also paying for her registration and insurance for a year.

Gonzales got pregnant at 14, and will graduate from high school this year. “It’s so touching and it’s so amazing knowing that there’s people out there willing to help the ones that are in need,” she says in the clip, posted by the Thunder.
“[Gonzales] is so worthy and so humble,” Sunbeam’s Erin Engelke says. “She did not see this coming.”
“Today was a good stepping stone to show her everything is going to be all right,” Westbrook added.
